The Department of Medicine began as a
teaching department under the Philippine Medical School in 1907. Dr. William
E. Musgrave, the first department Head, and Dr. Richard Strong, both pioneers
in Tropical medicine, providing the leadership of the department during its
early years and set the basic foundations of SERVICE, TRAINING and RESEARCH.
In January 1911, the Department of Medicine became a department of the PGH.
